George H. Leggett (Leggett) VIEW PROFILE

George Leggett, age 71, died peacefully in his sleep Sunday, September 12, 2021. He was born in Summerfield, North Carolina on August 23, 1950, and was the eldest of three children. As the son of an avid hunter, George quickly developed a love for the outdoors.

After graduating from Grimsley High School, he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Upon graduation from UNC-Chapel Hill, he attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to pursue a master’s degree where he met the love of his life, Rebecca (Bost) Leggett and they were married in 1980. George and Rebecca raised two sons, Matt and Will, and welcomed two daughters-in-law, Kara Leggett and Jazmin Leggett-Peralta and four grandsons, Tucker, Lewis, Shepard, and James. A lover of all sports, George especially loved coaching and watching his sons and grandsons as they participated in youth athletics. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Revis and Rosie Leggett; grandparents, Bill and Cora (Granny) George is survived by his wife, Rebecca; their two sons, Matt (Kara) and Will (Jazmin); and George’s brother and sister, Eddie Leggett (Barbara) and Alesia Leggett May (Tim). George is survived also by his aunt, Ruby Nelson and her family; uncle, Troy Hornaday and his family, nieces Angi Leggett Cole (Jason), Brendle Leggett, Robin Gray (Joey), Brandy Angel (Brian), and nephews, Eric May (Mischa), Joshua May, great-nieces, Emily and Elizabeth Gray, Elizabeth Cole, Nathan Dudley, Michael, Christian, Tyler and Chase May; and numerous cousins, with whom he dearly loved growing up together. 

A service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 19th at West Raleigh Presbyterian Church located at the corner of Horne and Vanderbilt Streets, Raleigh, North Carolina near the North Carolina State University Campus. Reception and conversation to immediately follow the service in the courtyard of the church. Interment will be private.
